Ilir Meta was born on 24 March 1969 in Skrapar. Bachelor’s in Political Economy at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Tirana, Ilir Meta has completed postgraduate studies in the same field. Currently Ilir Meta is a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, President of the Board of the Institute for Peace, Development and Integration, as well as a member of the International Commission on the Balkans. Ilir Meta has an intensive political activity, starting from 1990, as an active participant student movement that overthrew the communist regime. From 1992 onwards, Ilir Meta was elected MP seamless in all the legislatures of the Albanian Parliament, in which it was a member of several committees and during 1996-1997 he held the post of deputy Foreign Policy Commission. Ilir Meta is one of the founders of the Youth Forum Eurosocialiste (FRESH), given his kontriburtin for Forum membership in the Socialist Youth International. During the years of his membership in FRESH, Ilir Meta has held senior management positions as vice president (1992-1995) and Chairman (1995-2001). Ilir Meta’s political activity in the structures of the Socialist Party is compressed. He was a member of the General Committee of Directors by Congress in June 1992 and a member of the party since 1993, up to the period when he resigned from the chairmanship of SP (July 2003), after the problems raised at the SP leadership structures -that the lack of transparency in the management of the Government and the Party of Prime Minister and Party Chairman Fatos Nano.

During the period 1997-1998, Ilir Meta has been Chairman of the Socialist Party of Tirana. In the period 1993 -1996, Ilir Meta has held the post of vice-president of the Socialist Party and from 1994 – 1996 and that of the Secretary for International Relations, the period during which relations were established with many socialist and social democratic parties in Europe, and the European Socialist Party and the Socialist International. Ilir Meta political activity includes a period of successful leadership in government, where he served as Prime Minister of the country from November 1999 to September 2001 and after winning parliamentary elections in the summer of 2001 was rimandatua as Prime Minister, September 2001 – February 2002.

During this period, the best achievements of the government of the country for the period of transition, the stabilization of the macro-economic parameters, appreciable improvement of the road network, successful privatization of some strategic sectors of the economy, the establishment and operation of law in All the terror of the country, etc.. In February 2002, in order to avoid the crisis within the governing political majority and resigned from office. Ilir Meta has also served as deputy prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs during the period July 2002 – July 2003, deputy prime minister and Minister of Coordination Government during the period October 1998 – October 1999, and Secretary of State for European Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, March-October 1998. Currently, Ilir Meta was elected a member of the International Komisoinit the Balkans led by former Italian prime minister, Giuliano Amato, the composition of which are quite famous personalities from the EU, the region and the U.S.. Besides political activity, Ilir Meta has given lectures at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Tirana, and several academies and universities in Europe and the U.S., the European Academy of Berlin or Harvard University. Ilir Meta was married with Monica Kryemadhin and have three children, Boren, Besarin and Eren. speaks fluent English and Italian.
